We are a community-led initiative by minority individuals within the Wheaton College Community that aims to cultivate a culture of collectivity and equip each other with tools for self-love. We strive to develop rhythms of mutual aid within anti-racist and queer affirming frameworks.

We seek the education and empowerment of our community through weekly Equip meetings, which are a mixture of lecture and discussion, and social media. We strive for free association, meaning anyone who affirms our Community Statement is welcome at any gathering, regardless of past attendance or other affiliations. While there are no strict obligations or commitments for those who affirm our Community Statement, we do encourage community members who want to be involved to attend our weekly Equip and Town Hall meetings as we seek to build a reliable support network. According to the Chroma Community Statement, members are expected to respect pronouns within meetings and community events. We advise checking in with individuals about what pronouns they may prefer outside of Chroma, as these may differ from their preferred pronouns within the group setting.

We define minorities as people of color, ethnic minorities, & non-white individuals, women, all members of the LGBTQIA+ community—including gender-expansive, non-conforming, and trans individuals—religious minorities & non-religious individuals, political minorities, language minorities, class minorities, individuals with disabilities, individuals who experience neurodivergence or mental health issues, and any group of people who are in the minority and/or discriminated against within or beyond Wheaton College.

No, anyone can attend! While our aim is to serve minority communities, we welcome all who are interested in a safe space inhabited by like-minded individuals. Aside from this, on Wheaton campus, allies are unfortunately also a minority community—so you may be a minority without realizing it!

The simple answer is no, we are not affiliated with any religious belief system. We recognize our context as students attending a Christian college, and likewise recognize many of our students to be Christian identifying! In light of this, Christian members within our leadership are willing and ready to support Chroma’s ideals from a Christian perspective. Ultimately, being a non-religious organization allows us to cater to all minority communities, including religious minorities.
